Hugh Simmons [hsimmons@voicenet.com] "I am trying to figure out what happened to 1st Corporal Henry Marion BOLTON of Winnfield's Company K. His last "present for duty" is the August 1863 muster roll. Family legend only states that "Uncle Marion never came home from the war." He left a wife and two young children. She remarried sometime in 1865 to another Confederate veteran who had served in the 3rd Louisiana. Somehow they had reason to believe he was dead. Mansfield? The pursuit of Bank's army below Alexandria? Ambushed by Jayhawkers after the regiment disbanded?"

Privates Edward S. and George Nathaniel BOLTON in Company K were brothers, and 1st cousins to Marion [Henry M. BOLTON]. George Nathaniel was wounded and captured on 18 MAY 1864 "near Norwood's place" and hospitalized at Helena, Arkansas on 27 MAY 1864. His tombstone is marked with the Southern Cross and says Company G, 28th LA Infantry. We have papers showing that he received a Confederate pension of $3.95 per quarter in May 1902. On his application he lists the mames of Bob Jones and Morris Burnstein as comrades in arms, both of Winfield, LA. He also stated that he couldn't remember the letter of his company. (He was 78 years old at this time) He enlisted in February, 1864. Rank: Pvt. (5/25/98)"
